From the hijack in 6-max you open about 21% of hands (282 combos) — one seat closer to the button than UTG, one fewer player to get through, and roughly a third more hands. The additions are the weaker suited aces and kings, more suited gappers, and A9o+/KJo+.

The hijack is where opening ranges start to widen for a concrete reason: only four players act behind you instead of five, and the two most dangerous of them (CO and BTN) still have position, but the blinds will be defending against a raise that folds out fewer hands. Each seat you move toward the button removes one chance of running into a premium, and the equilibrium range expands accordingly.
The right hands to add are not "slightly worse offsuit broadways" — those still get dominated. Add suited hands: K9s, Q9s, J9s, T8s all become clear opens, because they flop draws, they can barrel on flush-completing runouts, and they do not need to win at showdown to be profitable. The offsuit additions (A9o, KJo, QJo) are much thinner and belong in the mixed band.
Against a strong button who 3-bets 12%+, the correct adjustment is not to open tighter across the board — it is to drop the worst offsuit hands (KJo, QJo) first, since those are the hands that have to fold to a 3-bet and therefore realise the least equity.
About five percentage points: 21% from the hijack versus 16% from UTG in 6-max. The extra hands are mostly suited — K8s–K9s, Q8s–Q9s, J8s–J9s, T7s–T8s — plus a thin band of offsuit broadways (A8o, KTo, QTo, JTo) that solvers open only part of the time.
Not quite. In 9-max, MP still has four players plus the blinds behind it and opens tighter (about 15.5%). The hijack in 6-max has only the CO, BTN and two blinds behind — fewer opponents means a wider range, which is why they are separate charts.
